Hey everyone, I will be travelling to Chicago June 19th through June 23rd. I would like to stay in the city so wondered if you know of reasonably priced hotels? Also I am considering flying to Midway on Southwest to save money. Is there transportation from Midway to city center? Also as I am likely to be moving to Chicago in next year or so would like advice on areas to live. I have been to Chicago before for very brief weekends and loved the place. Looking forward to going again. I don%26#39;t have a lot of money so reasonably priced would be $80 a night. If I have to stay outside city center I will. Your transportation is so good actually like travelling by train. I am sure I can%26#39;t stay in city for $80 a night but thought I would at least ask. Any places I must see as well? Thank you in advance.
Advice for Chicago trip
You can take a CTA orange line train from MDW to downtown. www.transitchicago.com for details. There%26#39;s a trip planner function on the home page. A CTA visitor pass might come in handy for your visit.
A hotel downtown within your budget will probably involve bidding on Priceline. Also check rates at - www.midwayhotelcenter.com
Advice for Chicago trip
Definitely try Priceline. In the past I have gotten rooms at both the Sheraton and the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza for under $80/night using Priceline. I would think that you could book at least a two or three star property for $80/night or less.
As far as neighborhoods to live, I would probably recommend Lincoln Park as the top neighborhood to check out for someone new to the city. I%26#39;ve lived in many different neighborhoods, but Lincoln Park is great because it%26#39;s fairly close to downtown and the red line and various bus routes can get you there pretty quickly. It%26#39;s very charming with great parks, restaurants, shopping and nightlife. It%26#39;s also very safe. Most residents are either young adults or young families. The negatives are rent is more expensive than other neighborhoods, and street parking can be very difficult depending on where you live. Other neighborhoods I can recommend based on personal experience are Wicker Park, Bucktown, Andersonville, Lincoln Square and Old Town. Typically the further you get from the city center, the less expensive the rent. Good luck!
Make sure you monitor expedia.com. They have hotel specials every Wednesday and sometimes you can get 30-50% off discounts.
Thanks everyone! Will look into all ideas you gave me. Looking forward to being in Chicago in several months time..
Take a look at travelzoo.com and, also, quikbook.com
As for neighborhoods, I think you%26#39;ll find a nice variety just by riding the brown line (CTA visit transitchicago.com) and getting off at various stops to check out the neighborhood. I%26#39;d start by maybe taking the brown line to Armitage, getting off and walking around. Do the same at other stops (e.g., Southport, Irving Park, Addison, etc.).
If you%26#39;re not familiar with the CTA visitor pass, you should consider buying one -- it will save you money. See transitchicago.com
Enjoy your visit! Safe travels!
