We are planning to go to either Chicago or New York City this summer from Toronto after we graduate as a trip and my older brother says that Chicago%26#39;s waterfront and the city overall is much more cleaner and visually beautiful than New York (he has been to both cities for trips before), while New York is bigger.
I was wondering if this is true? I really want to go to both with my friends, but I have to decided on one.
Does Chicago have a good waterfront?
Over 18 miles of lakefront stretching north and south. The lakefront is ';our'; backyard. You can swim, sail, motor boat, run, rollerskate, rollerblade, bike, tan, drink, eat, grill, and marvel.
Does Chicago have a good waterfront?Been to both and I agree with your brother. The Chicago waterfront is much much better.
The photos speak for themselves - http://images.google.com/images?rlz=1C1CHMI_enUS309US309%26amp;sourceid=chrome%26amp;q=chicago+skyline+photo%26amp;oe=UTF-8%26amp;um=1%26amp;ie=UTF-8%26amp;sa=N%26amp;tab=wi%26amp;ei=eXfeSee9CpXunQfTgfGbAQ%26amp;oi=property_suggestions%26amp;resnum=0%26amp;ct=property-revision%26amp;cd=1
I have been to both and totally agree Chicago hands down is so much more.
Both cities are totally different but I love going to visit my dd in Chicago I am going to miss it when she graduates from college next month.
Congrats on your own Graduation!
As said, Chicago%26#39;s waterfront is amazingly beautiful. NYC has areas of beautiful waterfront as well, but the lake is Chicago%26#39;s soul. Cleaner and more beautiful, though? I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d say that. The cities are different, each with its own vibe and feel. But both are clean and both have beautiful architecture and man-made natural areas.
Assuming you%26#39;re graduating around the normal graduation age, you%26#39;ve got lots of time to visit both. Chicago is probably more budget-friendly (assuming that matters to new grads), but you%26#39;ll see both eventually, and probably once won%26#39;t be enough for either.
I don%26#39;t think the lake is considered Chicago%26#39;s soul but our waterfront is much more people friendly than New York%26#39;s. New York is much more cosmopolitan with very hip shopping while Chicago is less so. I guess if you want more of an urban/beach holiday, Chicago would be it. Chicago is less expensive too in regard to hotel%26#39;s and restaurants.
I love both cities, but Chicago is really more beautiful than New York, and the downtown areas (and all the main sort of %26#39;touristy%26#39; areas) are far cleaner than New York as well.
Both are great cities, but from a visual perspective Chicago wins hands down. The lake, the skyline, the views, the parks - really great.
sorry not read all posts before replying.
jenifera2 - I really do think Chicago is cleaner. It%26#39;s one thing that really struck me.
I adore New York (I never thought I%26#39;d find another city I loved visiting as much), and I actually like the roughness of parts of it. But it surprised me how much cleaner and well kept Chicago is (the downtown areas I%26#39;m talking of here, not necessarily all neighborhoods!). It%26#39;s something that really stood out for me, after about 7 visits in a row to New York, then coming to Chicago - it was really noticable.
Safety wise, I agree - both feel like safe cities. New York especially so probably, it%26#39;s so gentrified these days ;-) Obviously in any big city you would be streetwise, but both really are comfortable cities to be in.
