There are atm machines everywhere. You won%26#39;t have a problem locating one here.

Don%26#39;t know about pre-loaded cards. I just use my regular debit (Maestro) card at ATM%26#39;s in the US.

ATM%26#39;s are easy to find!

All I%26#39;d say is if you will be using your credit/debit cards, just let your bank know you are going abroad, so they don%26#39;t put a block on your cards.

There are banks everywhere but they will charge you $7+ dollars when you use their ATM, you might want to find out what your bank charges on top of that.

The only time I can think you will need to have cash is if you use a cab and it%26#39;s also better to spend cash in bars.

If your cash card works like a Visa or MasterCard you can use it just about everywhere.

never been charged $7 for using the ATM!

I used to bring a couple of traveler%26#39;s cheques when going abroad (in addition to credit/debit). Do they even exist anymore?

ATMs shouldn%26#39;t cost you more than $3, and oftentimes you%26#39;ll find them only charging $2.

Careful of two things:

1) Many American debit cards have limits of $250 withdrawal per day...I think European limits are higher, but still exist.

2) Maestro is not nearly as common in the US as it is in the UK...most ATMs here are Cirrus. Look for the symbols. Many, but not nearly all, machines will take Cirrus and Maestro. If you have trouble, go into a bank.

All Maestro cards here are Cirrus cards, so that isn%26#39;t a problem for sure.

The important thing is to let banks know what country you are going to be in and when, cos they will block cards - especially credit cards.

travellers cheques - yep they do still exist! Personally though, I just don%26#39;t ever see a reason to get them these days.
