I own a Bed and Breakfast and try to keep up with guests needs, wants and interests.
I would like to know from a guest point of view what you tend to look for. This would be helpful not only for myself, but for other Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers
What do you look for in a Bed and Breakfast
Cloran, I enjoy staying at Bed and Breakfasts. This is what is important to me:
1) Cleanliness. If the room is not neat and clean, nothing else matters. We stayed at a B%26amp;B last year that had very shabby carpeting that I didn’t want to walk on. At the same place, the bathroom was filled with tiny bugs. I was glad we only stayed one night!
2) A fair price. I’m wiling to pay more for a B%26amp;B, but if the cost is too high, I won’t even consider the place.
3) Pleasant breakfasts and good food. We’ve never had a bad breakfast at a B%26amp;B. My favorite part of the B%26amp;B experience is the conversations with the other guests – I know the Innkeeper has no control over this, but this is what makes a B%26amp;B special.
4) Pleasant hosts. This has never been an issue either – we’ve found that innkeepers are extremely friendly and helpful. At one place where we stayed, the hosts were a little too friendly and told us about the many bad guests they had. This made us uncomfortable – What were they going to say about us? We were on our best behavior there!
Being an innkeeper is a tough job and I respect what you do to make your guests happy.
What do you look for in a Bed and Breakfast
Thanks for your input. Every Bed and Breakfast is an extention of the Innkeeper but we all try to put ourselves in the guest position as far as what would we like if we were the tourist.
Thanks again
Cleanliness is number one, and number two would be the sense that the place is run as a business, not as an extension of someone%26#39;s house. That means regular hours for staffing and breakfast, routine replacement of towels, sheets, carpet, etc., and no litany of little signs warning about this or that.
It sounds like you had a bad experience.
When you say that a B%26amp;B should not be an extention of the Innkeepers Home, I think you may be missing the boat
All rooms should be clean, absolutely, but the charm of a Bed and Breakfast is the home atmosphere.
It should be run as a business, I agree with that as well, but it should also be very casual and the guest should feel as though they are visiting a relative or close friend.. You cannot get that in a Hotel.
