authentic restaurants near Magnificent Mile

Hi Chicago Fans, I have one night in Chicago after a big test and I want to experience some authentic Chicago fare without going too far from my hotel (near 900 N. Michigan Ave). I%26#39;d like a restaurant that%26#39;s not a chain or managed by a chain. Also would like to spend less than $50 per person. What do you think?

Thanks in advance! P.S. I looked at the 2008 restaurants suggested already and am hoping you%26#39;ll recommend something ';fresher';.

';Authentic Chicago fare'; - please be a bit more specific. Chicago is represented by just about every cuisine imagined. That%26#39;s what great about this city.

www.chicagoreader.com has a great dining search tool. Read reviews and search by budget, location, cuisine etc.

If you want something real get a hotdog at Mr. Jay%26#39;s on the north west side of Chicago and State. Dinner should run about $6.00 or so. :-)

Thanks for websites and hot dog advice (!)

What do you think of Les Nomades and Il Mulino NY?

%26gt;%26gt;What do you think of Les Nomades and Il Mulino NY?%26lt;%26lt;

If you want authentic Chicago, I wouldn%26#39;t eat at a Il Mulino which is NY based restuarant.

If you want Italian try CAFE SPIAGGIA (980 N. Michigan) which is the smaller, more casual sister restaurant of Spiagga (4 star Italian) . It is a true Chicago restaurant.

Les Nomades is fantastic, but my recollection is it%26#39;s prixe fixe and starts at over $100 a pop. What%26#39;s fresher mean? Les Nomades has been around forever. Eve is close to your hotel and very new. Entrees are 25-35, so you might be able to get away with under $50, if you don%26#39;t drink much. It%26#39;s good. But not too much else that%26#39;s new that%26#39;s super close. Feast just opened on Delaware, but I have a feeling you%26#39;re looking for something more upscale. Are you willing to take a short cab ride? Piccolo Sogno is relatively new and fantastic. If you%26#39;re into pork, beer and oysters, Publican would fit the bill...it%26#39;s a pretty hot restaurant right now. Province just opened in the market district...I haven%26#39;t been yet, but a buddy was raving about it and they have small versions of all the entrees, so you can try a lot.

Check out Harry Carry%26#39;s restaurant...great atmosphere and food! Eat anything from steaks to pasta. Also, right in your price range.

The OP requested a non-chain restaurant.

Wow! I%26#39;m overwhelmed with all the choices. Thanks so much to all of you!
