Hey,
I was just wondering which side of the river it would be best to find accomodation.. looking for a hotel that is reasonably close to most of the main attractions..
Hotel Accomodation - North or South Side of Chicago River
River North or Mag Mile areas are best from a tourist standpoint. Plenty of dining options. The Loop area tend to get a little quiet in the evening as it consists mostly of office buildings. Please read the reviews in the Chicago Hotels section of this web site.

North is marginally better for most people, unless you want to do a lot of theater or visit the Art Museum and Museum Campus a lot. But really, it is marginal. We%26#39;ve stayed more often in the Loop due to better hotel deals at the times of our visits. It%26#39;s no trouble whatsoever. Also, the Loop is generally better from a transit point of view with regards to the el train.
I always base my hotel choice on cost and the specific hotel rather than location.
CT,
That is a most controversial question in Chicago! I believe you will find North of the river better, especially later at night. More night life, more activity and folks on the street, and consequently you feel safer...and North is in the center of all of the action and activities. But as folks say, there is plenty to do south of the river too. One good thing about Chitown, we do have a lot of bridges.....

Either side of the river is fine. The Loop is quieter at night but you may find better deals than Near North. The hotels in the Loop are a quick cab ride from the Mag Mile/Rush Street areas - especially at night. During the day, it%26#39;s an easy walk over one of the many bridges - and walking is a great way to get the feel for the city. Loop hotels are also great if you are in town for theatre. I would opt for the best price in the category of hotel you want.
