Winter coat in April & CTA question

Looking at weather.com doesn%26#39;t give me real picture for mid-April. Will I need winter coat?

Also everyone keeps saying how easy Chicago public transport is but it sounds confusing(with the transferring) %26amp; easy to get turned around, especially for someone like me with a poor sense of direction. Will probably stick to on-off trolley %26amp; organized tours, only have 2 full days (3 nights).

Winter coat in April %26amp; CTA question

go to weather.com before you leave to check on chicago weather. Chances are high you will need a heavier coat but April is chancey. Chicago Trains are easy, but transferring can get confusing if you aren%26#39;t use to it. But many destinations don%26#39;t need a transfer. Also, due to budget cuts, the on off trolley isn%26#39;t running.

Winter coat in April %26amp; CTA question

Public transit is not as confusing as it seems. It%26#39;s well marked. There are electronic signs and announcements on the buses and trains with the upcoming stops. If in doubt, ask for help. www.transitchicago.com for public transit information. There%26#39;s a trip planner function on the home page.

Chicago weather in mid-April is similar to that in Connecticut, but probably windier. You could have rain or snow. Sun or clouds. Freezing temps or 80F.

Do check the forecast just before your trip and adjust as necessary, but in lieu of a winter coat, you%26#39;d likely find layers with a wind- and water-resistant outer jacket more adaptable.

Chicago transit is among the easiest I%26#39;ve navigated, but if your sense of direction is poor you%26#39;ll need to pay extra attention to where you%26#39;re going. I recommend, at least at first, know exactly what route you%26#39;re taking before you set off on each trip. Familiarize yourself with the map for that trip and pay attention to the maps that are in the el train cars as you go. Write down details of where you%26#39;re headed and how. People are friendly, so as recommended above, ask if you%26#39;re not sure.

Also remember that Chicago is quite walkable if the weather allows. You get to see so much on foot and take in the city atmosphere and energy.

Thanks all for the replies.

When you say ';the on-off trolley'; isn%26#39;t running due to budget cuts, are you talking about that free trolley I had heard was discontinued? I was actually referring to the all day paid tour that you hop on %26amp; off for one price. is that also discontinued?

Nope. https:/鈥?/a>

Thanks Dave for the link. Do you think Easter week will be too chilly for one of the boat tours?

Bring a mid-weight coat and hat. You can always decide at the last minute if it%26#39;s worth doing.

Best thing to do is to come back on this forum a day or two before your trip and get feedback on the current weather and what people are wearing. Today you definately need a winter coat, a scarf, and gloves.

Yes I checked weather.com %26amp; see you guys have snow showers the next couple days. Unfortunately something came up where I have to postpone the trip I had planned next week so maybe by the time I do get there things will have warmed up. Thanks again to all for the feedback.

Re: the trolley - I would skip it. Chicago is very walkable and the BEST way to get the feel of the city. Public Transportation is very easy to use and very inexpensive.
