Chicago Bridge Lifts

If you are visiting in the next couple of months, you can watch some of Chicago%26#39;s drawbridges lifting and lowering due to the spring migration of water vessels to the various harbors.

The Chicago Tribune online has posted a very brief article about this, which includes a hyperlink to the CDOT%26#39;s Spring 2009 Bridge Lift Schedule.

If this is interesting to you, you may also wish to visit the McCormick Tribune Bridgehouse %26amp; Chicago River Museum, which is housed within the southwest bridge tower at the Michigan Avenue Bridge. You can be within the bridgehouse when the Michigan Avenue bridge lifts for $10 pp extra (above entrance fee). See bridgehousemuseum.org for details.

Dave, that%26#39;s just too funny! Of course, it being a Saturday with me up here in Lakeview, I had missed all the fun!

But it brings up a good point for travelers. Please don%26#39;t jam pack your schedules to the Nth degree. You have to allow sufficient time for delays just such as these in the upcoming months.

Saw several sailboats going through just this afternoon!
