Cheerful & cheap near Sofitel Chicago

My friend and I are planning a quick trip to Chicago April 2-4 and are looking for cheerful %26amp; cheap places to eat near the Water Tower; also nightlife for two adventurous 50-somethings.

Cheerful %26amp; cheap near Sofitel Chicago

I don%26#39;t know of a lot that%26#39;s cheerful and cheap that%26#39;s right by Water Tower. There%26#39;s Foodlife in the mall. Tempo is right down the street from the Sofitel. It%26#39;s a greek diner.

If you%26#39;re willing to walk a little, there%26#39;s more. Portillos, if you%26#39;re in the mood for classic chicago fare, isn%26#39;t too far away. I like Andy%26#39;s for jazz on Hubbard. If you go there for an evening show, you might like Star of Siam for dinner. It fits the cheerful and cheap bill. Both are about 10 blocks from Water Tower. If you like cheesy 80%26#39;s music in a fun atmosphere, Red Head Piano bar is a little closer, on Ontario. You could pair that with Quartino (not cheap, exactly, but fun) or a pizza place (it%26#39;s near Uno%26#39;s and Due%26#39;s...and Giorodano%26#39;s is on the way as well). There%26#39;s a lot of theatre in Chicago...check out the Storefront Theatre and see if you like what%26#39;s playing there. It%26#39;s a little more adventurous than the typical musical and big theatre stuff that%26#39;s offered downtown. Again, a bit of a walk (or short cab ride).

You can read reviews and do dining searches by budget, cuisine etc at www.chicagreader.com. Use Mag Mile as your search area.

There is a little chicago hotdog stand at Chicago and State called Mister J%26#39;s. It is very ';real,'; no frills kind of place, but good cheap local food.

Paisano%26#39;s and GoRoma are 2 Italian options on State Street near Chestnut.

As for nightlife, I%26#39;d check out Pops For Champagne at the corner of State %26amp; Ohio. Also, look at Vertigo in the Dana Hotel (State %26amp; Erie)
