First time in Illinois

My wife %26amp; I will be in the Oak Brook area in June for 3 days. We would like to know what attractions,or things to do, are in the area.We like the performing arts theatres, zoos, sightseeing tours, etc. We already have tickets for the White Sox, and Cubs, but were looking for other interests. Thank you so much in advance.

First time in Illinois

From Oak Brook, you are a short drive to Morton Arboretum, Oak Brook mall, Brookfield Zoo, and Oak Park (home to Frank Lloyd Wright%26#39;s Home and Studio, among other things). WHile there is live theater in the area, I couldn%26#39;t find much for the first part of June. When you have your exact days, go to chicagoplays.com and use the advanced search to find theater in the western suburbs.

It seems like you will be in the city for at least one and a half days. Are you driving to the ball games, or using public transportation? The Sox game is a better bet for driving, but I would absolutely recommend that you use the train or bus system for the Cubs. Whether it is a day or night game, you%26#39;ll want to plan the rest of the day in the downtown area, where you can conveniently catch trains to the game (Red Line CTA train, www.transitchicago.com) or Oak Brook (www.Metrarail.com - which line depends on where you are staying in Oak Brook.)

We are staying at the Renaissance Hotel. What would be our best option for the ballgame?Should we drive in ,or take public trasportation/ Thanks again

For the Cubs, you would use two trains. The one nearest your hotel is the Hinsdale station on the BNSF Metra line http://metrarail.com/Sched/bn/bn.shtml

When you get to Union Station downtown, you will need to walk 3/4 of a mile across the Loop to the Jackson/State Street Station on the Red Line subway. Take the Red Line train north (it will say ';to Howard';) and get off at Addison. The ball park is right there. It%26#39;s less than a half hour from the Loop to Addison, and those trains run frequently, especially when there%26#39;s a game. However, they do get very crowded. If this is a problem, try to leave a little earlier than the crowd.

Driving to the Sox game will probably work well. If you want to take the train, use the BNSF line, above, walk over to Jackson, and take the Red Line train SOUTH to 35th/Sox Park. It%26#39;s about a four block walk to the park.

Take a Pace bus direct to the ballgame. For the Cubs game, catch the bus in Lombard. It%26#39;s just west of Oakbrook. For the Sox game, catch it in Burr Ridge. It%26#39;s just south of Oakbrook.
