Etnic cuisine in Chicago

My husband and I will be in Chicago for a week in May. Can someone recommend authentic and nice ethnic restaurants? We like Indian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Indonesian, Vietnamese, etc. food, but we are open to other suggestions as well.

It%26#39;s all here. Way too many choices. You can read dining reviews and do dining searches by cuisine, budget, location etc at www.chicagoreader.com

www.transitchicago.com for public transit information. A CTA visitor pass might come in handy for your visit.

A great website to check out for ethnic recs is also www.lthforum.com, try using the search function before you post...

Some suggestions if you%26#39;re willing to leave the city center:

- Chinese or Vietnamese: Red Line north to Argyle, several places within a block or two of the station. There is also ';Chinatown';, 22nd %26amp; Wentworth, just south of downtowon on the Red Line.

- Mexican: Pink line to 18th, go east a block or two (Nuevo Leon and its neighbors)

- Indian: the Devon Avenue strip between Western and California. This would entail train + a bus - Red Line north to Loyola, then 155 bus west on Devon.

ChipSet%26#39;s suggestions are excellent for someone unfamiliar with the city and the hundreds of possible suggestions. Just go to those areas and stop, at a place that looks interesting and popular.

If you are shopping on Michigan Avenue one day, a convenient and good place for lunch is Gaylord Indian Restaurant. It is on Walton Street just west of Michigan Ave. The lunch buffet is always consistently good with lots of choices of Indian dishes. It costs about 12 dollars.

Reza%26#39;s Restaurant. Persian, Middle-Eastern,

and Mediterranean Cuisine. Their lunch buffet is awesome.
