1st time visiting; Where stay near great food and jazz clubs

Looking to visit Chicago for 4 nights in a couple of weeks and would like to stay in hotel under $200/nt, near great food (street food to casual to fine dining, we like anything as long as its%26#39; just GOOD :)). It would also be nice it we were near some areas we can comfortable walk around at night and possibly walk to clubs to listen to music, going to a comedy show, etc.

What areas and even specific hotels would be recommended? We do not plan on renting a car and are flying into Midway.

Thanks!

I also wanted to mention that as long all areas are safe, we have no problems walking 20 blocks or so each way to a destination.

Thanks!

Somewhere in Near Northside, Old Town or on or off Michigan Ave but on the North end of Michigan Ave is where you should stay. Good Jazz clubs throughout the city, same with restaurants.

Please read hotel reviews in the Chicago Hotel section of this web site. River North or Mag Mile areas are best. There are many hotel options.

CTA orange line train from MDW to downtown. www.transitchicago.com for details. There%26#39;s a trip planner function on the home page.

I%26#39;d shoot for something right in the middle...around Hubbard, Illinois, Grand and Ohio streets. Marriott Courtyard, James, Hilton Garden, Hampton Inn and Suites, Hilton Homewood, Embassy Suites and Four Points all fit the bill. You can walk a few blocks to Pops (great jazz, expensive) and Andy%26#39;s (great jazz, not expensive). It%26#39;s restaurant central there with Frontera, Quartino, Ben Pao, Rockit, Brasserie Jo and dozens more right there. You could walk to Jazz Showcase and the south loop restaurants (opera, mercat, custom house, etc.)...bit of a walk, but under 20 blocks, I think.

Thanks for all the replies. Since I am completely unfamiliar with the area, I am having a difficult time figuring out where hotels are in relationship to the areas mentioned. It almost looks as though I really can%26#39;t go too wrong, though, since we are willing to walk all around.

Google Maps is a good resource.
