Checkerboard Lounge on the southside. This is where Mick Jagger jams when he comes to town. Well, he used to--haven%26#39;t heard of him being there for years.

Checkerboard Lounge features jazz, not blues. http://www.checkerjazz.org/

It%26#39;s a jazz and blues club but most notably, and for a million years, a blues club. Here is a cut/paste from their website:

The original Checkerboard Lounge closed in 2003. It was on E. 43rd St. The ';New'; Checkerboard Lounge features jazz. Here%26#39;s the schedule - www.checkerjazz.org/calendar.checkerjazz.org

As I said, the old location changed, the new location features jazz and blues, as you can see by their name and schedule. I%26#39;ve been to the old and the new place--because it moved to Hyde Park, they did want to incorporate jazz into the line up. The old location, in a worse neighborhood, just had blues.
