Hello,
I%26#39;m planning a trip to Chicago, my first time, with my husband and I see to stay downtown is very expensive, understandably. Is there a commuter train town that would be nice to stay in? So what town would you recommend, and then what motel(s) or b%26amp;b%26#39;s would you recommend, thanks!
Affordable, Nice Hotel Close To Train To Chicago
It may depend on the nights you are staying; there are a lot of conventions and events that change hotel prices. Please reply with the dates you are looking for, how you are traveling (plane, car, etc.) and what you want to see and do while you are here.
Affordable, Nice Hotel Close To Train To Chicago
We would stay 7 days. We would take the train into Chicago most days. Just looking for a outlying section or town that is nice to come back to at night, safe %26amp; affordable. Flying in, yes, car, not sure. I%26#39;m focusing on walking to the train. Thanks!
What are your dates of travel? I%26#39;d be happy to research to see what I can find.
Skokie is a good option. Check rates at the Hampton Inn, Doubletree, and Comfort Inn.
Also check rates at the Hilton Garden Inn in Evanston.
Evanston and Oak Park are your best bets for suburbs with good train connections without a car. Both have commuter lines (www.metrarail.com) and CTA ';EL'; trains (www.transitchicago.com)
Thanks Dave and PGO, those suggestions are much appreciated!!
In Skokie, the train station isn%26#39;t really within walking distance of any hotels. Evanston and Oak Park are better options in that regard, but they are both difficult to get to from O%26#39;Hare. Perhaps a better option would be to stay somewhere around around O%26#39;Hare (if that is where you are flying in/out of). There are hotels near the Rosemont and Cumberland stations on the Blue Line that might work well for this.
CTA buses stop in front of the Skokie hotels. The Hampton Inn has a free shuttle to the CTA yellow line station.
Well, since I don%26#39;t know dates I can%26#39;t research what%26#39;s available, but I would look into the Courtyard (800 Lake Cook, Deerfield) and Residence Inn (530 Lake Cook, Deerfield), as both of those hotels are down the street from a train station, so you can just take the train straight downtown instead of bus-to-train. I believe the Wyndham Suites in Glenview also has a shuttle to the nearby area, which should be able to take you to the nearby train station in Glenview.
The Courtyard Highland Park and Renaissance North Shore also - although you%26#39;d have to confirm - have shuttles to nearby train stations.
Two other options would be the Sherton NW in Arlington Heights. It is located right next to the Arlington Park Metra stop. It is also close to the shopping of Schaumburg. It would be especially good if you are bringing kids as it has an indoor water park.
Another low key option is the Marriott, Courtyard, Springhill Suites or Hampton Inn in Lincolnshire, IL. Springhill probably being the best choice as it is within walking distance of the Prarie View Metra stop. The nice thing about these hotels are that they are in an affluent area with several high class dinning options: Flemmings, Kona Grill, Cheesecake Factory, Big Bowl, and Wildfire.
