Are the cheese burgers at Billy Goat Tavern really that good, or are there much better places?
Cheese burgers at Billy Goat Tavern
The cheeseburgers (cheeseborgers) at the Billy Goat Tavern are just okay. It isn%26#39;t a big fancy place, but could still be worth a visit.

I didn%26#39;t care for the burgers at Billy Goat at all, people go there more for the notoriety than the food. Boston Blackie%26#39;s, as mentioned, is a good alternative.
They are pretty unique, in that they use a thick kaiser roll and the beef patties are quite thin. I really like them, but I have friends that do not. I would suggest that you try it, but definitely order a double cheeseburger.
If you want foul-mouthed abuse with your order, try The Wiener%26#39;s Circle later in the evening:

I%26#39;d venture it%26#39;d be a more memorable American / Chicagoan dining experience than the one holding up the premise of a 30-year-old comedy sketch.
Also, as not to confuse you, the Billy Goat Tavern is now a chain of restruants across the city. There are eight Billy Goat%26#39;s now. One is in the United Terminal in Ohare and there is even one now in Washington D.C. The original one is located on Lower Michigan Ave.
Having ate a Billy Goat, I would agree that the food is just OK. I would also agree with the previous posters that Boston Blackies has an exceptional burger. I enjoy their burger with both Cheddar and Blue.
Over Lunch, Smith and Wollensky has a truely exeptional burger, but it will set you back around $20 with a soft drink.
