....that Chicago is a great place to visit!
Hi! We are a couple in our mid-30s. I have been to Chicago many times and love the city. However, I have gone on and on about the shopping so my husband is reluctant about taking a trip there with me this summer :-).
Help me to come up with itinerary that will show him the BEST of the city -- walking tour, restaurants, museums, etc. That may or may not involve a walk down the ';magnificent mile'; for the shopping.
We will be there in mid-July for 3 days.
Thanks!
Kim
Help me convince my husband.....
www.explorechicago.org and the Visiting Chicago section on this web site are good sites to do some research.
www.chicagoreader.com has a great dining search tool.

Help me convince my husband.....
I agree with you - Chicago is a great city!
What does your husband like to do?
There are miles of beautiful pathway along Chicago%26#39;s lakefront for biking, running, or in-line skating. You can rent a bike on your own or go with a bike tour. Try www.bobbysbikehike.com Or hang at the beach and join a volleyball game.
It looks like the Cubs will not be in town in mid-July, but not knowing your exact dates here%26#39;s the schedule just in case:
chicago.cubs.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp…
You could also see if the Sox are in town, but there%26#39;s nothing like a ballgame at Wrigley.
Great architecture tours -- river boat, walking, or bus (I would recommend river boat): www.architecture.org or check www.walkchicagotours.com
The Art Institute has one of the country’s finest art collections. After you’ve spent some time with Picasso and Monet, you can stroll one block north to Millennium Park and visit the ';Bean” and the Frank Gehry-designed concert pavilion. Check the concert schedule here and bring a picnic dinner: www.millenniumpark.org
Don%26#39;t forget Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and the Planetarium, all withing walking distance from each other and right on the lake front.
Lincoln Park Zoo has beautiful grounds in a great neighborhood and is free.
Kayak on the Chicago River: www.kayakchicago.com
You could try a new restaurant every day for a year and still not visit all of Chicago’s eateries, so you might as well try some local favorites. You have never had pizza until you’ve had Chicago deep dish pizza! My favorites are Pizzeria Uno and Pizzeria Due (www.unos.com), Gino’s East (www.ginoseast.com), Baccinos and Giordano’s (www.giordanos.com). Don%26#39;t forget to pick up some Garrett%26#39;s popcorn.
Public transportation (bus, subway/el, taxi) is plentiful so skip the car and stay downtown.
I could go on and on... I guess I already have. I hope you convince him. Chicago is great, especially in the summer.
Geez, I forgot about the music! Blues, jazz, etc. Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues. Check the schedule for Northerly Island/Charter One Pavillion or theater schedules if that%26#39;s more your thing.
And comedy at Second City or Zanies. Like I said in the last post, I could go on and on...
If he%26#39;s into fishing, you could book a 1/2-day Salmon fishing charter from Monroe Harbor, too. The skyline view from the water is awesome.
Thanks for the quick and thorough information. Can%26#39;t wait to share this with him!
