Any recommendations for best mexican restaurant on or near n michigan ave?

Honestly? Near Michigan Ave.? Chipotle or Burrito Beach... if you want good Mexican you%26#39;re going to have to head a bit from Michigan Ave.

Oh wait, Bandera is right on Michigan. Kinda pricey, never been very impressed with it, but some seem to like it. I%26#39;ve only been there for a past work function...

Frontera Grill on Clark Street is walking distance.

A short taxi ride:

Adobo Grill in Old Town

Mexique at 1529 West Chicago Avenue (66 Chicago Avenue bus will take you right there.

Good restaurant resource websites:

Metromix.com

ChicagoReader.com

ChicagoMag.com

If you try to get to Frontera, get there early...they only take limited reservations... Topolobambo takes reservations and are even on opentable.com, even there you might want to make reservations a few days before arrival.

If you%26#39;re willing to take the ';L'; to get some good Mexican food, take the Pink Line to 18th St. It is a mostly Mexican neighborhood called Pilsen. There are several good restaurants there, but my favorite is Mundial Cocina Mestiza (http://www.mundialcocinamestiza.com/).

One more for you: Zocalo Restaurant and Tequila Bar on West Ontario Street. Be sure to check out the budget-friendly recession specials tab.

Great suggestions-thanks all!

If you want authentic no frills, take the blue line to Division/Ashland. Walk south down a half blocl on Ashland and there are the ';Pasaditas';--one on the east side of the street is counter seating only and the one on the west side of the street is sit down waitress service. From the carne quesadillas to the tongue tacos, you will not be dissapointed. But no booze. If you want booze with your amazing mexican meal, keep walking another two blocks south on Ashland to ';el barco';--they have all the traditional favorites, plus some amazing fish entrees. If you want a nice Red Snapper with a Margarita, this is your place.

great, I love little local joints. Any other suggestions for restaurants of any kind from the locals?

Frontera Grill as previously suggested. but also Adobo Grill on Wells Street, not far from your location. The BEST margaritas. By the way, somebody suggested Bandera. It is NOT a mexican restaurant at all. You cannot go wrong with Frontera Grill or Adobo Grill.

If you want good neighborhood Mexican, try heading down to Pilsen as suggested above. Mundial is good if you want a nice sit down lunch/dinner with more creative Mexican, if you want tacos, burritos etc, you might have a look at this article from Time Out last year, we tried Restaurant La Casa Del Pueblo which is basically cafeteria style, lots of yummy things to eat.

I%26#39;ve never been to the popular Nuevo Leon which is also in Pilsen, there%26#39;s usually a line to get seated.

Frontera and Topolobampo mentioned above are gourmet Mexican, you might have a look at the menu if you are thinking of going there, it might not be what you are looking for.

Oh and if you are here on a nice Sunday, you might head over to the Maxwell Street market (which is no longer on Maxwell Street, it%26#39;s at Des Plaines and Roosevelt now), there are all kinds of booths selling Mexican food, there%26#39;s a wagon that sells churros that are awesome. There%26#39;s also a place in Pilsen called Don Churro that sells them, we walked to it from Restaurant La Casa Del Pueblo.
