Places to eat near Sheraton Towers

We are visiting Chicago from London in about ten days time and as we only have 3 nights there, want to make the most of it. We%26#39;ve never been to Chicago before and are really looking forward to it.

Can anyone recommend restaurants near-ish to the hotel? We particularly like seafood and would also love to try Chicago pizza. Not that keen on Mexican but we enjoy pretty much any other kind of food. We%26#39;d like to keep costs to a minimum without being too mean. Is $40 each for dinner unreasonable?

Also, what other hidden gems or must-do activities would people recommend?

What are your ages and interests?

You budget will cover a good meal at a mid-level restaurant, but certainly won%26#39;t approach the cost of a top place. Seafood is usually expensive and not the best feature of Chicago restaurants - we are a long way from the ocean. You might like Boston Blackie%26#39;s, Vong%26#39;s Thai Kitchen or Star of Siam, Bandera, Grand Luxe or South Water Kitchen, all of which are walkable from your hotel. The closest Chicago-style pizza would be Giordano%26#39;s near Lake Street and Michigan Ave., or Lou Malnati%26#39;s, in River North. www.metromix.com has maps and reviews.

We%26#39;re in our early 50%26#39;s, enjoy art, historical sites and general wandering about! We also enjoy music and want to visit the old Chess Records building amongst other things. We%26#39;re hoping to get to a club one evening but want one that isn%26#39;t corporate or put on for the tourists. Any ideas?

If you are interested in the Old Chess Building on south michigan, you can eat at Room 21, a snazzy little place a couple blocks away that has mobster Al Capone ties. When you go there, be sure to ask to see Al%26#39;s Room 21.

Room 21 has closed, when I pull up Room 21%26#39;s website it%26#39;s listed as Via Venuto at the same address, says it opened March 24th and is Italian on Open Table.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. We%26#39;ve also been given a city pass each by the Chicago Tourism and Convention people who are doing a splendid job of promoting your city so far. Looking forward to spending some time there.

Ealingite, did you get that City Pass for free? Is that a transit pass or a pass for attractions? I have a friend visiting later this year from London and I know she%26#39;d love to get some discounted stuff :-)

LoveChicago - the pass is for attractions and we were given it because Chicago Convention and Tourism were sponsoring a competition we won so it%26#39;s not a freebie your friend could access. They have been brilliant in arranging things for us - a great advertisement for the city.

If you are looking for a Jazz club you might want to check out The Velvet Lounge.
