We are thinking of going on a road trip starting in Chicago and ending somewhere on west coast. I had thought about Route 66 but some forums seemed to discourage. I have tried to look for some other suggestions but can%26#39;t find anything definite. We are in our late 20%26#39;s , would like to see Vegas, San Fran , maybe SaltLake city? Our holidays are for 2 weeks. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

You can try either a northern route or southern depending on what you like to do. On the northern route you could make stops at Badlands, SD, Rapid City area, (Mt. Rushmore), Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Salt Lake, Las Vegas and Frisco. IMHO Yellowstone is not to be missed.
Southern Route could include, St. Louis, MO, Memphis, TN, New Orleans, Texas(long drive), Sedona, AZ, Las Vegas, Frisco. IMHO, if you like night life and great food, New Orleans is not to be missed.
