Trump Towers or The James

Looking for opinions and advice. My husband and I are traveling to Chicago in May 21-24. Found an Expedia non-refundable rate for $199 for a standard king room at Trump Towers - The James also has some good specials at that time. We like quality and semi quiet - not looking for the hip, happening thing - more romantic is our style, plan on spending our time, shopping, shows, tours, nice dinners, etc.

First question, does anyone know what a standard room is like at Trump Towers? How big it is? I know a suite is listed at around 600 sq ft. Is the $199 a good deal - it is non-refundable so if I go with it - I%26#39;m locked in... How expensive is pkg at Trump as I have to factor that in since we will be driving in and parking our car for the whole time we are there.

How does the James compare to Trump Towers? Are the amenities overwhelmingly better at Trump? Both have pools? Views better and one over the other?

Any advice would be so appreciative. I have stayed downtown several times in years past - a few at the Hotel Monaco which I really enjoyed...and the Amalfi which was ok - room kinda small...but thought I would try something new this time.

Thanks

Nearby (less expensive) parking:

The Sterling Self-Park Garage

(located between Clark and LaSalle on Kinzie)

312.341.3463

$24 per day

In by 7 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $14

In by 9 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $18 per day

After 3 p.m. and weekends - $6

It%26#39;s a couple of dollars higher than listed. Still a good deal.

Both hotels are nice properties in the same area. IMO, Trump outclasses James. Price being equal/close, I%26#39;d go for Trump.

Trump Towers or The James

Trump Towers trumps James. And I love the James. It is the hip happening hotel you aren%26#39;t looking for. Trump is much more serene and romantic. Lovely bar and restaurant in Trump with outstanding views. Trump is right on the river and James is on busy Ontario. James is closer to the north michigan shopping but just by a few blocks.

no comparisson trump it is

Absolutely, Trump. You could consider parking your car in the Millenium park garage, and grabbing a cab to the Trump. Maybe 5 minute taxi ride. But stay at the Trump no matter what.

Thanks for all of your input, upon further research, it looks like this $199 rate is for one of their rooms on the spa level...noticed that they do not look quite as big as the regular rooms...anyone experience these rooms yet? Are these comparable to their other rooms on the higher floors?
