We will be in Chicago from 6th to 10th July before embarking on a route 66 trip. I found Hotel Felix online and it looks good for a reasonable price.
Does anyone know if it is any good?
Importantly, is this a good area of town to be in?
We are arriving at O%26#39;Hare so need to be able to get there with cases - is this a sensible area to choose?....and is it easy enough to get back to in the early evening?
People familiar with Chicago might have better suggestions closer to the sights???
Also, we need to arrange car hire near the hotel to drive into Missouri - does anyone know which companies are in this area and reasonably priced?
Thanks in advance!
hotel felix, good hotel? good area?
I never heard of the Felix so I checked it out...wow. The introductory rates look great. The location is fine. You are close to everything. Place looks really good, hopefully it is all built and they are still not doing construction. Thanks for the tip...we have a lot of out of towners that we put up...this looks like a real bargain as far as rates downtown are concerned...grab it and keep it.
For a car just Google Avis or Hertz and they give you the downtown locations. Available from several hotels near to you. Good travels.
Regrding transportation downtown, you can take the el but it is a pain in the neck with suitcases. It is however cheap. Then you can grab a taxi from any downtown stop...not sure which one you will take.

The Hotel Felix just opened up, it should be fully functional by your trip in July and you should start seeing reviews soon. The neighborhood is fine, it%26#39;s River North and it%26#39;s close to lots of shopping and dining.
Unless there%26#39;s a major convention here during your visit, stay downtown. From ORD, take the blue line to Clark/Lake. There are elevators and escalators at that station. From there, it%26#39;s a short cab ride to most hotels downtown.
www.transitchicago.com for details. A CTA visitor pass might come in handy for your visit.
Most of the major car rental chains have an office downtown. Check rates at www.kayak.com
Many thanks to you all.
Dave 148 - we have decided we%26#39;d be better downtown and got an amazing rate at the Hard Rock Hotel (offer ends today) so just booked it!
Zabriskibound - the Hotel Felix does look fab and currently has cheap deals, we would have booked there if we%26#39;d been staying longer - but we need to be central and easily accessible.
Getting excited now!!
Just to clarify - River North (Hotel Felix) is part of downtown. Downtown is divided into sections so you can tell which part you are referring to. River North is just west of Michigan Ave (Mag Mile) and just north of the Chicago River. IMO, Hotel Felix is centrally located.
Just realize that Felix is a really good location and is central, and I would prefer it to the Hardrock..

Sorry if I wasn%26#39;t clear, River North is just a section of the downtown tourist area, it%26#39;s location is quite good. But the Hard Rock is fine too, I think of the two I probably would have gone with the Felix as it%26#39;s brand spanking new and slightly closer to restaurants, shopping, etc.
