Hotels near Volo, IL

We will be going to the Volo Auto Museum this summer and we were wondering if you had any suggestions for hotels in the area.

Any help is appreciated.

The Volo area consists of mostly off brand independent hotels. Nearby in McHenry is a Super 8 %26amp; Hampton Inn. In Crystal Lake, there%26#39;s a Country Inn, Holiday Inn, and Comfort Inn,

I think what Dave meant was off brand Motels -

and they are not what you are looking for.

Hampton Inn (McHenry)is by far the nicest hotel in the area.

Next to the hotel is an upscale steakhouse-

Dunhill%26#39;s; not far from a new Mexican place-

Las Palmas and Old Wasaw Inn (buffet).

Near the Volo museum is a great Italian Beef and

hot dog place called Fratello%26#39;s. Corner of Rt.120

and Rt.12.

If you go into the Crystal Lake area there is

a remodeled Holiday Inn but that is about

a half hour drive from the museum.

Thanks for the info! It will really come in handy!

Do you know how far the Country Inn is from the museum?

It is at least a half an hour from Volo.

There is only one lodging option in Volo. Fish Lake Beach is a camping facility almost across the street from the museum area.

I now live 3 miles down the road from the the museum in Wauconda. Unless you like the outdoors, the museum is pretty much all the area has to offer for tourist. There isn%26#39;t much for shopping (however, McHenry is really booming) unless you head up to Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall (the states no.2 tourist attraction...I prefer Pleasant Prairie 10 minutes north of that).

There are a lot of good restaurants that overlook the lakes in Fox Lake and Wauconda. Moretti%26#39;s in Fox Lake and Lindy%26#39;s Landing and Doc%26#39;s in Wauconda come to mind. Both have decent, but not great food, but excellent views. Fox Lake is one of the few areas in North America where you can view Lotus growing in the wild (depending upon the time of year you come). There are lots of forrest preserves in the area. Lakewood forrest preserves is talked about being the site of equestrian events for the 2016 Olympics if they come to Chicago.

Like Dave already stated, there are a few hotels in McHenry, but there isn%26#39;t really much around these hotels. The Hampton Inn in McHenry would probably be your nicest choice. It is around 15-20 minutes from the museum. There is also a nice steakhouse called Dunhill%26#39;s in front of it.

Your best bet is to call Holiday Inn and see if you can get a room in their Holiday Inn Express in Lake Zurich. It is currently under construction, but I am sure it will be done by next summer. It will be the closest hotel to the museum. It will be about 5-10 minutes down route 12 (Rand Rd) from the museum. Lake Zurich puts you near Long Grove for boutique shopping.

Waconda has a small hotel that is probably the closest to the museum, but it old and small (think Bates motel). I think it called the Wauconda Inn or something like that.

I just found about this place in Wauconda. It would be the closed lodging to Volo if you would like a bed and breakfast...

Also, within the last few weeks the Holiday Inn in Lake Zurich finally opened....
